The School Book Project
Rainbow Foundation is proud to introduce the School Book Project. Our goal is to provide writing books and writing supplies to 650 impoverished children in small villages surrounding Sihanoukville by the start of the school year in October 2008.Public school is free for Cambodian children, although families have to provide the child with a school uniform and necessary school supplies. Many families do not have the means to buy books and school supplies for their children, consequently the children do not attend school. In Spring 2008, Rainbow has visited some small communities around Sihanoukville and provided materials to 150 children in need of writing books for school. With further support from donors, we would like to greatly increase this number. How can you help – We need writing books, pencils, pens and colouring pencils.
Prices in Cambodia:
Five writing books - $1.25 Ten pencils - $0.25 Five pens - $0.35 Ten colouring pencils - $0.26
Sponsor one child for one semester: $4.61 Sponsor a family of 3 children for one semester: $13.83 Sponsor a class of 25 children for one semester: $115.25
The Rainbow ShopIn March 2008, we opened The Rainbow Shop selling clothing, books and accessories to raise funds for Rainbow. The shop is a focal point for visitors to learn more about Rainbow and our projects. We collect used clothing which we sell in the shop or give to the children at Rainbow House or in villages, and other material donations such as shampoo, towels, toothpaste, toothbrushes, vitamins and art supplies. Visitors are welcome to stop by anytime to learn more about Rainbow. See shop map for location.
Team Rainbow – Our own basketball team
In Fall 2007, we put a basketball hoop up in the yard at Rainbow House. With the help from a local volunteer, Coach Set, the kids learned to play basketball. They spent endless hours practicing and playing. We bought matching uniforms for all the kids which they proudly sport on the court. We have had a couple of matches with local NGOs. The sound of bouncing basketballs fills the house from early morning till bedtime. The younger boys in the house are already practicing for when they will be old enough to join Team Rainbow!
