Rainbow Foundation was established in 2006 as a small scale organization aiming to help impoverished Cambodian children. Our main project is a Cambodian-style home for children who are either orphans or children whose parents or relatives were unable to give them the necessities in life, including shelter, nutrition, and schooling. Our aim is to create a positive, healthy environment for the children to grow up with Cambodian traditions and values.  Rainbow also offers assistance to families in communities around Sihanoukville that do not have adequate means to provide for their children. Rainbow helps provide a proper diet, medical care and education fees to these struggling families.

Children that come to Rainbow are evaluated on an individual basis and do not have to be orphans.  They can be children who do not receive adequate care from their families or whose families do not have the means to support them. The children living at Rainbow House were referred to Rainbow staff my members of the community. Rainbow visited the community to understand the child’s family, education and health situation and to determine whether Rainbow House is a good environment for the child. Rainbow Foundation encourages contact and ongoing relationships. if the children have relatives. 

Funding
The project was started by Amanda Hayes, the founder and managing director of the organization.  We operate solely on private donations from individual donors.  Rainbow is not funded by a governmental or non-governmental organization.  Additionally, we operate a small business in Sihanoukville, The Rainbow Shop, selling clothing and books to raise funds for our projects. We function as a non-profit organization, and all the donations, whether money or supplies, directly benefit the children to pay for clothing, education, food, medical care, etc. 

Our Objectives are to:
•    Maintain  a clean, secure and stable home environment for 10 children
•    Have up-to-date supplies of clothing and school uniforms, toothbrushes and all other personal necessities
•    Provide a full, balanced, healthy diet
•    Provide a standard Khmer education with additional home schooling and English instruction
•    Offer full, quality medical care
•    Provide adult supervision and guidance
•    Maintain an environment which encourages Cambodian culture
•    Allow freedom to practice all religions
•    Provide jobs for Cambodian citizens
•    Increase awareness of Cambodian and Worldwide issues
•    Support  other Cambodian children on a non-residential basis through our targeted outreach program
•    Support the Rainbow Foundation Clothes Shop which generates funds and awareness for the Foundation


Our Goals for the Future:
•    Organize workshops for children to discover and develop new skills
•    Expand Rainbow School to include computer classes and French classes
•    Provide lasting and ongoing support after the children have grown and left the organization
•    Create sponsorships and increase fundraising
•    Open a second home for children in Sihanouk Ville, Cambodia
•    Raise funds to purchase a minibus for our excursions to the children’s families and for the children of our outreach program
•    Encourage long-term (1 year +) foreign volunteers to teach English and other skills on a regular basis at the house
